Chivu keeps his halftime message in the dressing room

Cristian Chivu, Inter's head coach, was asked why his team keep falling two goals behind. He said he had already given his answer in private. “I said what I needed to say about the first half at half-time, and that stays between me and my players,” Chivu said.

He called it a good point against a very strong opponent, in a stadium where it is hard to play. He said the second half brought the right attitude, grit and personality.

A minute's silence at the Olimpico for Sandro Mazzola

Both teams gathered in the center circle before kickoff for a minute's silence in memory of Sandro Mazzola, the Inter forward whose death, aged 83, was announced on Saturday. The club called it “sixty seconds to remember an entire lifetime,” and Inter's players wore black armbands.

Giuseppe Marotta, Inter's president, told the broadcaster DAZN before the match that Mazzola wore the shirt for 17 seasons and helped make Inter great. It is now up to the club “to preserve and pass on the memory of this icon,” Marotta said.

Three weeks off before Parma

Serie A now pauses for an international break that runs three weeks. Inter's next match is Parma at San Siro on Saturday, October 10, and the Champions League follows three days later at home to Club Brugge.
