Chivu keeps the performance, not the result
“I’m not angry; I’m happy with the courage and personality we showed,” Chivu said afterward, noting that Inter “didn’t try to sit back and speculate” against Real Madrid.
What he judges the team on: “the reaction to certain mistakes, the body language, and how much you believe in what you’re doing.” He singled out Josep Martínez, who “made some important saves” after the second goal.

Lautaro on the Ballon d’Or list for a fifth time
France Football named its 30-man shortlist and the Inter captain is on it again — a fifth nomination, after finishing as Serie A’s top scorer with 17 goals.
Only Sandro Mazzola (nine) and Giacinto Facchetti (eight) have been nominated more often as Inter players. The ceremony is Monday, October 26 at the London Palladium.

Marotta, before kickoff: an obligation, and a right
Speaking to Sky Sport before kickoff, president Giuseppe Marotta set out both sides of it: “abbiamo un obbligo che è quello di dare il massimo” — we have an obligation, which is to give our maximum — and “abbiamo il diritto di sognare” — we have the right to dream. He was blunt about the gap, calling Real Madrid “un livello superiore al nostro” — a level above ours.

Dumfries, on the other side of it
Denzel Dumfries started at right back for Real Madrid against the club he left. He told Ziggo Sport afterward: “Quando ho visto il sorteggio il mio cuore ha iniziato a battere più forte” — when I saw the draw my heart started beating faster — and “È ovviamente strano giocare contro la tua ex squadra” — it is obviously strange to play against your former team.
