Chivu on the eve: “a duty to write important pages”

Chivu spoke at the Bernabéu on Monday evening. “We have a duty to write important pages in the history of the Club,” he said, and: “We don’t want to change who we are, and we want to show courage and personality.”

On the new league phase he was precise: “In my opinion, you need 16 points. Fifteen won’t be enough, and even 16 isn’t a guarantee.” On his team sheet: “For me, it’s not important who starts, but all 16 players who will make their contribution.” Lautaro Martínez, beside him: “For us, it’s an objective. We all dream, but it’s not an obsession.”

Gazzetta: five changes, and Dimarco stays behind

La Gazzetta dello Sport, carried by FCInterNews, expects about five changes from the Napoli team: Josep Martínez; Pavard, Akanji, Bastoni; Luis Henrique, Barella, Calhanoglu, Jones, Carlos Augusto; Lautaro and Thuram — “il ritorno della ThuLa,” the return of the Thuram–Lautaro pairing, with Curtis Jones in for a first start.

On Dimarco, it says the left knee he hurt against Napoli keeps him in Milan, and calls the choice a “decisione precauzionale” — a precautionary one.

The club has published nothing on the knee, and no lineup.

Gazzetta: Spence closing in, with Roma the target

The same paper says Djed Spence is close to training with the group again — “presto in gruppo” — after a late start to preseason, and that he is aiming at Roma away on September 19. He can play either flank, which is the shape of the hole Dimarco leaves.

Inter have said nothing about his fitness or a return date.

Kickoff times come from Inter’s published calendars and the club’s Women’s Cup announcement. Milan is six hours ahead of New York while both are on summer time. US broadcasters come from the CBS Sports Champions League schedule and Sports Media Watch’s Serie A listings; where no schedule has named one yet, the row says so.
